The Gottman Method
The Gottman Method is an approach to couples therapy that uses assessment and research-based interventions to assist couples in managing conflict and distress in their relationship. Couples learn to repair past hurts by understanding and redirecting negative conflict patterns and increasing positive interactions. Through this process, the couple develops a shared meaning and experiences increased intimacy, increased respect and affection, increased empathy and understanding of one another, and increased ability to address barriers that are causing conflicts within the relationship. Relationship issues addressed in therapy may include:
Frequent conflict and arguments.
Ineffective communication.
Couples who are threatened by separation or divorce.
Sexual difficulties, infidelity, financial issues, and parenting difficulties.
