Somatic Experiencing

The Somatic Experiencing method (SE) is a body-oriented approach to healing trauma and other stress disorders. SE originated from Peter Levine’s research involving multiple disciplines of study, such as: stress physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices, and medical biophysics. SE incorporates an individual’s innate resilient tendencies and heals distress from a “bottom-up” approach, which ultimately assists the individual in becoming “unstuck” from the fight, flight, or freeze responses we instinctually feel when experiencing stress and trauma. Trauma can result from various circumstances, including (but not limited to): witnessing/experiencing death or catastrophe, emotional, verbal, sexual, or physical abuse and/or neglect, natural disasters, birth trauma, lack of nurturing environment, or the corrosive effects of stress sustained over a long period of time. The Somatic Experiencing approach and therapeutic process leads to improved healing, growth, and increased awareness on a neurological, emotional, and cognitive level. SE also provides tools for future implementation and healing. More information can be found at: https://traumahealing.org/about-us/#about
